Further research...

After reading about Vlamimir Propp and researching his theories, I decided that It would be a good idea to look into some other ideas from different film theorists. This would not only widen my understanding of the different theories in film narrative but it would also allow me to learn from a different perspective and thus provide me with knowledge that will be of maximum benefit to me throughout my production. 
The theorist I decided to look into after Propp was a man named Tzvetan Todorov. 
Todorov suggested that conventional narratives are structured in five progressing stages and that each stage is equally as important as the last. The five stages are as follows; 


1. A state of equilibrium at the outset
2. A disruption of the equilibrium by some action
3. A recognition that there has been a disruption
4. An attempt to repair the disruption
5. A reinstatement of the equilibrium


After reading about Todorovs' theory I began to realise that it can be applied to many modern, 'mainstream' productions of today. 
However, despite the general usefulness of Todorovs' theory- it is of limited usage to me in this project. The reason for this is because this particular theory focuses on a narrative structure typical of a film or another full length media production. My project however is just a trailer. The result is that the codes and conventions of a teaser trailer clash somewhat with the order of Todorovs' five stages, for example, there would be no 'reinstatement of equilibrium' in my teaser trailer as the whole purpose of it is to entice the audience and focus their intention on what  could happen and not what definitely will happen.
Despite this however, My knowledge of Tzvetan Todorov's theory has indeed helped me throughout my production. This is because that by using the basic structure of the theory as groundwork for my teaser trailer, I have been able to create an understandable storyline in a style that my audiences will be able to recognise, thus making it more effective.

Background research on the theme of my production.

As the theme of my production is schizophrenia I thought that it would be a good idea to do some research into this unusual condition so that I could better understand it and its symptoms. By doing this, I gained a valuable understanding of schizophrenia and am now confident that I will be able to accurately portray the condition in my production.
As part of my research I read a book called 'I Never Promised You A Rose Garden' by Joanne Greenberg. The book is a semi-autobiographical account of a teenage girl's three-year battle with schizophrenia. Deborah Blau. She was bright and artistically talented, and created a world, 'the Kingdom of Yr', as a form of defence from a confusing, frightening reality. This book gave me an insight into the behavioral aspects and mannerisms of those with schizophrenia which will be very helpful to me when it comes to making my production.
